“Carnival” at Princeton Opera Association

“Carnival”
Music & Lyrics by Robert Merrill
Book by Michael Stewart

Based on the 1953 movie "Lili", this dazzling musical theater classic tells the story of a young orphan girl who finds romance and adventure in the magical world of a traveling circus in Southern France. Roustabouts, puppets and circus acts fill the stage, while the story is told through hauntingly touching music, including the songs "Love Makes the World Go Round" and "It Was Always You". With music and lyrics by Bob Merrill and book by Michael Stewart, "Carnival" won the 1961 New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and was nominated for seven Tony Awards.
